Pig (the dice game)
Pig (the dice game): quick guide and game info
Ready for some fast paced fun? Pig (the dice game) is a classic jeopardy style game where you roll to rack up points… but one bad roll can wipe out your whole turn! It’s all about knowing when to push your luck and when to play it safe.
On our site, you play against our fun AI opponents: laid-back Marty (Easy), strategic Martin (Medium), or the risky Martimus (Hard). Choose your format in a quick one-off game, best of 3, or best of 5. You pick your target score: Short (50 points), Classic (100 points which is our default), or Long (150 points).
We’ve even brought back the original charm, meaning the 1 on the die is replaced with a cute pig’s face, just like players did back in the day with homemade dice. Free to play, entertaining , and perfect on any device!
game layout and setup
Super simple and clean:
- You vs. one of the Marty’s.
- One special six-sided die with a pig face instead of a 1.
- Big, clear score display bar for both players.
- Buttons for Roll and Hold.
- Choose your mode (one-off / best of 3 / best of 5) and target (Short 50 / Classic 100 / Long 150).
Players take turns rolling the die to collect points during their turn. The longer you roll, the more points you can earn but one unlucky pig roll can wipe out everything from that round.
how to play pig (the dice game)
- Roll the die to begin your turn.
- Every roll adds points to your current turn total.
Decide whether to:
Roll Again and risk losing your points
Hold and safely bank your score
- If you roll the pig face (the “1”), your turn immediately ends and you lose all points earned during that turn.
- The first player to reach the target score wins the game.
The game is all about balancing risk and reward. Do you play safe, or push your luck for a huge turn?
how to win pig (the dice game)
To win Pig, you must reach the selected target score before your opponent. It s a mix of luck and smart risk taking:
- Roll aggressively when your score is low, but get more careful as you near the target.
- Watch your opponent’s score, sometimes you need to push harder to catch up.
- On harder difficulties (especially Martimus), he knows when to hold and when to roll.
- Classic 100 point games feel the most balanced and nostalgic.
Start with Easy + Short mode against Marty to get the feel, then try Classic or Long for bigger thrills. The pig face makes every risky roll extra fun!
a little bit of pig (the dice game) history
Pig is a beloved folk game first described in print by John Scarne in 1945. It has simple roots and has been played in homes for generations. In the original real life versions, players often replaced the “1” on the die with a picture of a pig exactly like we’ve done here to honor that classic touch!
Over time, Pig became known as one of the classic “push your luck” games, a style of game where players constantly decide between playing safely or risking everything for a bigger reward.
Today, Pig remains a timeless dice game that’s easy to learn, surprisingly competitive, and always unpredictable.
